Organizations
Below is a brief description of all the organizations we are associated with. We cannot recommend checking these associations out enough. We have gained so much knowledge and information through them.
KHSI is the national association for Katahdin producers. Every year they host a multi day expo and a changing location within the US. This years expo will be in Mexico Missouri. A link to the expo page can be found below.
The National Sheep Improvement Program is a vital resource for us as we push to continually improve our flock using the metrics they provide. Linked below will be a guide to understanding how to read and put these metrics to work on your own farm if you are not already doing so.
The Coalfield Sheep Association is our local KHSI affiliate organization. They host a variety of different seminars and fields days covering a wide range of topics. The most recent field day was sponsored by a grant provided through the Virginia cooperative extension and covered the cost for attending members to become FAMACHA certified. The Coalfield Sheep Association host an annual sale every august in Clintwood Virginia with producers from all over the East coast in attendance. A link to the upcoming sale is provided below.
This regional group is new to us but their website provides a wealth of information regarding raising katahdin hair sheep. They also have one of the best sales in the industry which is coming up Saturday July 13th. A link to the online auction page will be provided blow.
